Design Festa – a biannually held event that began in 1994 for artists from all over the world will see its 31th incarnation next May! There will be over 2700 Booths, Performance and Live Music areas, Restaurants Cafes and Bars. Two days filled with art, energy, excitement and discovery! Check out their website here.

I’ll be there to mingle with the artist and designers, research the latest trends in Japan, and of course scout the competition. Every year they have new artists presenting their fashion collection, dance show, gadgets, and various kinds of art. Many of the artists are either students or one-man operations so it’s incredible to see their larger than life creations. I’m looking forward to showcasing some of the products I find here on the site. The Kasana (Samurai Umbrella) showcased their product here last year just to give you an idea.

Hello Everyone,

This is Yan Sen from True Beyond Design. It’s been several months since the launch of this site and now we’re finally getting a steady flow of traffic. Thank you for making that happen. I would like to use this post and ask for suggestions on how we can make this site even better. Is there an aspect of the site you think needs to be changed or added? Do you have questions that aren’t answered in the FAQ? Please leave a comment and maybe you’ll see those changes in the near future.

Also, if you think there’s a product in Japan that you’re interested in but can’t purchase from back home and think it’s in line with the theme of the site please let us know. We’ll do our best to source those products and make them available for you. We’re always open to new products, designs, and ideas.

Best regards,

Yan Sen

We wouldn’t mind scoring one of these, if only because the umbrella rack at the Metropolis office is reserved for visitors only. Go figure that one out. The Stand Umbrella is, as its name suggests, a brolly that’s able to support itself unaided, thanks to a tripod at its tip that—mercifully—is small enough to ensure that you won’t get weird looks from passersby in the street. This could easily have gone horribly wrong, crossing into the realm of chindogu “unuseless” gadgets, but somehow it works. We’d still like our own umbrella rack, though. For the full article visit Metropolis.

The On/Off Lamp beings the idea of enjoying the aesthetics of objects to a new level. When off the lamp is clean and modern with designs of animals, wine glasses, and light bulbs. When on the characteristics and colors change completely and gives warmth to the pictures and the surrounding environment. It’s design is so versatile that it can be used as a hanging light or a table lamp. All these elements allow the On/Off Lamp to win the Good Design Award in 2006. *Light bulb is not included but the appropriate electric cord (A, BF, C, O) will be sent according to location.
